What should I do on the date when MFA is enabled?
After MFA is turned on, you should register your smart phone for MFA as soon as possible.
To register your smart phone, do the following:
- Go to the Office 365 portal.
- Login using your Downstate email and password, as you normally do.
- You will see the notice below. Click on Next
- If you have set up password self-service before, your phone number will be populated automatically. Otherwise, you need to enter a phone number as the authentication phone. You will then be asked to verify your phone number. You can select to receive a code by text message or a phone call. Click on Next after you make the choice and follow the instruction to complete the verification

- You'll get an app password that you can use with Outlook 2010, Apple Mail, etc. Choose the copy icon to copy the password to your clipboard. You won't need to memorize this password. Please note that you do not need to use app password with Outlook 2016 and Apple Mail 12 (macOS Mojave).
- Congratulations! You have completed the MFA configuration and ready to use it for your next sign in to Office 365
